In the fourth part of our Innovation Insights Series, we had the pleasure to welcome Dr. Daniel Kiel, innovation manager at DATEV, at his alma mater to talk to our students about the innovation approach of the third-largest provider of business software in Germany.

During the guest lecture, Daniel gave us some insights into the innovation management of the cooperative DATEV, which offers software mainly for tax consultants and lawyers. DATEV has more than 8000 employees and serves around 470.000 clients. Daniel talked about the importance of ambidexterity for DATEV. In that context, he told us that one of his main tasks is to make sure that the innovation portfolio of DATEV has the right balance between incremental and radical innovations. Therefore, he has to make sure to support his colleagues to develop ideas that secure long-term market success. His detailed overview over the innovation process of DATEV revealed many interesting practical insights of how to strategically approach innovation challenges.

Prof. Voigt and the entire Chair of Industrial Management would like to thank Daniel and DATEV for his guest lecture! We are looking forward to meeting him again real soon!
