The vision of “Sustainable Smart Industry” combines the megatrends digitization and sustainability and aims to shape future value creation. On May 7th 2019, two events took place shedding light on this topic both from a practical and research perspective:

First, Prof. Voigt once again invited the EFI project teams comprising of twelve chairs of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg and the Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg for the sixth research meeting. The teams lively discussed their latest research results on the topics of economic, ecological, and social implications of Industry 4.0, technological infrastructure, as well as software and data. We are delighted that our research is doing progress with numerous scientific articles, conference contributions, and book chapters published. All project members enjoyed working together and we are looking forward to further gaining interesting results from the interdisciplinary project. Please visit the EFI website for further details on the project.

Second, a podium discussion on “Sustainable Smart Industry” took place at Josephs in the evening. Followed by a greeting of Prof. Russwurm (Kuratorium acatech), Prof. Voigt (Chair of Industrial Management), Prof. Beckmann (Chair of Corporate Sustainability Management), Prof. Merklein (Chair of Production Technology), and Prof. Möslein (Chair of Innovation and Value Creation) discussed the interplay of technological solutions along with the consideration of economic, ecological and social aspects. We thank the auditory for a broad interest in the topic and we are already looking forward to the next acatech podium discussion in Nuremberg.
